Frequently Asked Questions
What is reciprocal coaching?
Reciprocal coaching is a peer practice relationship where two coaches coach one another in separate sessions or in a longer session. Both participants gain valuable coaching experience while also experiencing coaching from the client perspective.
How often can I practice?
As often as you like. You decide how frequently you’d like to meet with your coaching partners.
Can I work with multiple partners?
Yes. Many members enjoy practicing with coaches from different backgrounds and coaching styles. To meet the ICF coaching practice requirements, you must coach at least 8 different people.
Do I need to be certified?
No. As long as you’ve completed—or are currently enrolled in—a recognized coach training program, you’re welcome to join.
Is Coach Practice Exchange affiliated with the ICF?
No. Coach Practice Exchange is an independent platform created to help coaches connect for peer coaching and professional development. Members are responsible for ensuring any coaching experience they log meets the requirements of the credentialing organization they are applying to.
Does reciprical coaching count towards my ICF credentialing coach practice requirements?
Yes. ICF considers reciprocal peer coaching as a type of ‘paid’ coaching. It is what would also be considered as “trade” or “barter”. Because each coach is practicing coaching with one another, they are “trading services”.
How do I document my coaching practice hours?
We provide an ICF-approved online log to track your peer coaching hours. Once your goal is met you’ll receive a verification letter.
